Dear all,
I'm a newly registered user on this forum. I own a Marine Sonic side scan system which is about 15 years old. I have a 150 kHz towfish and a 600 kHz towfish. I've seen many DIY projects both here on this website and on other sites, and I want to make my own towfish connected to a Humminbird or Garmin system. I've seen that the Humminbird system provides excellent images, but I already have a Garmin 1222xsv, so I might try with that first.
My question is simple:
How do I know how deep I can send my transom mounted transducer? I've tried to reach out to Garmin, but they cannot give me any good answers. I've seen that you all are mounting the transducers on a bracked underneath the towfish, which seems fantastic simple! I was thinking more of a similiar solution like Kenneth Sĝrensen has:
http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=9399.0 . And then I would use custom gaskets to prevent water from coming to the "top side" of the transducer. This is a more delicate operation since I then need to customize gaskets and make it 100% waterproof for approx 15-20 bar.
I want to be able to send my transducer as deep as possible. The ethernet/signal length is fixable.
I look forward to receive replies from you guys! I want to know how deep you've went with your transducers.
