Title: 798C SI reporting Engine Temp as Water Temp?

Upgrade the unit to the latest software release this weekend.  Now it appears that the water temp is about my engine temps.  Yes we are cooking fish in the ocean due to extreme global warming.  It explains why I froze when I jumped in this weekend to push of a sand bar.  I use Suzuki's 2001 NEMA SIMS gauges for my gauges.  Is it possible that the 798 unit is picking up some cross talk from it to report the water temps.  Water temps were reporting right prior to the software upgrade.  I guess I could try going back to the older software, but then I would have to redo all my setting again.

I would think that if there were any interference or cross-talk from the Suzuki gauges that it would have been there before the software update.  This is the first time that I have heard the reported temperature was off (way off from the sounds of it).  Try resetting the unit menu back to the factory defaults.  Other than that you can try the older version software again.

DEK...if you want to go back one level there is the download section here on the forum to get a back level.
If you do backlevel, take a minute and search the forum for hints and tips on code loading..

You can't have interference on the temp sensor.
The way the unit measure temperature is by reading a variable resistor.
The only way to change the value is by changing the value of the resistor.
If you pinch the cable and short it inside or damage the temp sensor.
Or if you have an external temp sensor, you could look into the connector
for debris or corrosion (doubt it since plugs are gold plated)

Since you have a 798, look into the cable connector (quick mount) to make
sure everything is fine there.

Technically, yes, they can suffer the same problem since the type of plug is virtually the same as the power connector.
