898c SI temperature?
« on: March 27, 2010, 09:20:23 AM »
Just got out on water with new 898c SI.  I mounted the included SI transducer high on my stepped transom  due to bass fishing stump fields constantly. Would constantly be breaking /knocking it up and would be almost immpossible to fix without getting in water.  Mounted second thru-hull transducer for high speed/on plane running with 2D. All seems good except I expected the 898 to have temperature through the giant SI transducer. If I'm reading the manual corectly do I have to purchase/install a seperate temp probe to have temp on the 898? No temp displayed on my main screen. Thanks, Neil

You do not have to have a separate transducer for temp.  Have you configured your display for the temp indicator.  Does the temp tab show but it is blank.  chuck

By default the unit should detect the temperature sensor that is built into the transducer and show it.  For some reason the new units are not doing this.  I have not heard if this was by design or not.  Try this first: reset the menus to the factory default setting by using the Restore Defaults menu which is found under the Setup menu tab.  I've heard where this fixes it so far.  This makes me think that at the final test that we are not resetting the menus in the unit like we should be... will have to check into that.  If that does not help than go into the Readouts menu that is also under the Setup tab and select one of the info boxes to show the temperature.  Please let us know which you have to do to get this to work.

Thanks guys.  No temp box shown at all. Will try restoring defaults and if no luck will try configuring the page myself. Stuck at work today. Arlington Texas Fire Department. There are worse places to be "stuck at work". Will try tomorrow when I get home.  Hope to have temp working monday when I sneek down to Lake Fork to look for bedding bass. Thanks again.

Well, choosing "restore defaults" didn't give me Temp but I finally figured out how to use your second option and set it up myself under the Setup menu and just choose temp for one of the boxes. Amazingly I now have a Temperature gauge on my console. Found bedding bass with it yesterday by finding warmer water so all is good. Just wish I was smarter then my toys! Thanks again, Neil

good deal.  You are smarter than your unit.  It just thinks you are not and you have to show that you are.  that is called experience.  You will be its master very soon.   ;D
