1197c si software not compatible with 1198c si
« on: January 08, 2011, 02:41:43 PM »
alright out there i have a new one to throw your way. Recently purchased 1198c si for the bow of my boat, also purchased interlink, have 1197c at console, when connected the 1198 says ( The software on this 1198 is not compatible with the software on the connected 1197 which is sharing the Interlink. You must upgrade the other unit to use the Interlink) So spent 2 hours on the phone with Humminbird and they said they would get back to me, Checked all current updates for both units and they are current, have tried y cables with two antennas and still says same thing, also at one point it would toggle between connecting to the interlink and disconnecting until i powered off them both. Any body out there heard of anything like that happening?

ktbassfan,

Welcome to the forum.  This is a new one for me.  I do not have the new 1198 yet so no experience with this issue.  Greg may be able to shed some more light on the situation for us when he drops in.  I am sure we will be seeing some updates soon and I am sure the engineers would have planned on this upgrade in the new 1198.

Have you tried powering on the 1197 first (or vice versa).

Do you have (or know anyone) with any other units you could connect to the interlink with the 1198 and see what happens?

Good Luck,

Thanks Robert,

Yes have tried powering up both ways, also swapped which unit is in port 1 and 2 , and no  one else of right now i could get unit from, The lady who was helping me at HB had never heard of this and said they would get back to me, I was just curious if anyone else had a similar problem with any of the new 2011 units coming out, attached is a picture of the message on the 1198 it also occured on the 1197 when it was hooked to port ila_rendered

I am sure its something that will be remedied in the next software update.  But I wonder if anyone has had this issue with any of the other units like the 997 or 798 etc. when connected to the Interlink and 1198c.

This is a link to a thread in another forum I frequent where a guy is having a similar issue with a 997 and a 858..

He is still waiting on instructions from HB...

I have seen where software version 5.** and higher is being released for some of the units.  I dont know if the ethernet is active in this version or not, but certainly some communications between units have changed.

I have not updated the software section here in a while and will try to do so later tonight.

I have been working with PanMan on the Crappie.com web site with his problem.  Right now the solution is to go back a software version and get his InterLink in to be reprogrammed or replaced.  I don’t know that the 5.*** software is causing this problem but it is sure looking that way.  I have informed our Quality folks of PanMan’s problem and now this one as well.  They have contacted the appropriate folks in our Engineering department so I’m sure that it is being looked into and a solution being formulated.  For now I would not use the 5.*** software – just in case.

Robert,
I would not post the new software on the web site until we know for sure if it is causing this or not.  If you already have I would post a warning to only load it if you are using the unit by itself and not as an InterLinked unit.

BTW: the Ethernet connection has not been turned on yet.

I typed a long message with my story about my 997, 858, Interlink, and software versions I tried before the Interlink had issues but it was lost when I tried to post it. Everything worked when the 997 had 4.95 and the 858 had 4.88. Started having issues after updating the 858 to 5.210. My Interlink needs to be reprogrammed or replaced after trying all kinds of software combinations and changing which unit is primary to get things working after the 5.210 update so I'm shipping it today. My plan is to use 4.9xx software provided by Humminbird on both units and hope the Interlink is happy when I get it back.

Humminbird has been timely and extremely helpful in trying to solve the issue.

Thanks for all of posts, the folks at HB called me and said they were able to duplicate the problem with the 1198 and the 1197. they said they would get back to me as soon as they come up with a solution. as soon as they get back to me i will let you all know what they have come up with.

Thanks KTbassfan

KTbassfan, you haven't heard?
The 1197c SI is now obsolete.
It's old news, with a screen that turns white and is unreadable when sunlight hits it.
No new hardware/software will work with it.
You have to purchase an additional 1198c SI to get the interlink to work.

Sike.  Just joking.
I hope you get your problem fixed.

From what I heard this week; both units have to be either running the 5.210 version software (which has not been released for all units yet) or an older version software.  If one is running the 5.210 software the other has to as well or they will not communicate through the InterLink.  Not sure why other than something had to be changed in the way they communicated when they went to the 5.210 software.

Not sure that I believe this 100% as I thought that Panman had tried older software in both units.  Maybe his InterLink did not load the older software for some reason.

I think the 4.7xx to 4.9xx versions of the software will work with the Interlink. My mistake was letting the unit with 5.210 reprogram the Interlink when I was trouble shooting. I was not able to get either unit to reprogram the Interlink with a previous version software after that. My Interlink is due back from Humminbird on 1/25. I will post my results running special beta software from Humminbird once I get everything hooked up.

Pamman,
I spoke to the person that tested your InterLink.  He said it was either totally dead or that it just would not communicate or program.  They did not troubleshoot it beyond this as I advised them that Engineering may want to look at it, so it was replaced.

Thanks Greg. That explains why it stopped connecting with the units. I guess I'll have to go and update my profile at Humminbird Support for the new serial number.

Got it today and installed it. Everything is working as it should after a few growing pains. Only connected Interlink to 997 as unit 1. Interlink Reprogrammed which surprised me since I requested it be programmed with the same software version on my units (4.995 Beta). The Interlink disconnected from the 997 just after reprogramming but reconnected and I was able to set the 997 to fully participate in the network. Connected 858 as unit 2 and powered it up. Was able to set it to fully participate in the network. I chose to keep data from the network and overwrite data on the 858. What I ended up with was double waypoints. Tried to use 997 to clear all data from network and start over but Interlink disconnected and would not reconnect.

Put 997 on Interlink as unit 2 and it was happy. 858 on Interlink as unit 1 and it was happy but I got triple waypoints. I was able to erase nav data and let 997 reload network. Was able to create waypoints on one unit and delete it from the other. The 858 appears to have more advanced Interlink capabilities so I guess it gets to be unit 1.

I have the same issue with my 997 running the latest firmware, and the 998 upgraded to 5.2. Was working just fine until I upgraded, was going to try and go back to 4.97 on the 998. Appears thats been tried and wont work.  I will try anyway as I have nothing to lose.

Call HB customer service.  Apparently they have been sending out a beta version for the 997 to help with this.

I'm having this same problem. I just installed a 1197 at the dash, installed the interlink, and moved my 958 to the bow. I updated the software on both units. Im getting a message  on my 958 saying that the software on my other unit isnt compatible. Is there an older software version I can install on my 958 to make this work?

b_brock,
You should call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks for the InterLink BETA software for both of your units.  Right now both units need to be running a newer or older software version than 5.210 (did that make sense?).  The BETA software is 4.950 I think and when loaded on both units the InterLink should work.
