UPDATE SOLVED re:998 Bad data? Shears in time line
« on: May 05, 2013, 10:53:29 PM »
I have had the 998 for about a month and have had it on the water 4 times.  In every case the recorded data indicates duplicate data and "shears" where the time shifts abruptly  to up to 30 minutes across one pixel row/column.
I have tried viewing this in the following viewers;
SonarTRX
Humviewer
Deepviewer
All display the same information incorrectly.  In addition to the views being screwed up the length of the recording is incorrect.  It is as thought it goes through periods where it does not record anything. (hence the shears)  What I view on the screen does not "feel" like enough bottom to justify the time on the water.
HB 998 SI
6.610
360
SanDisk Extreme HD Video 8 gig 30 MB/s

Has anyone experienced this?  PLEASE

Is this "shearing" effect also happening when the recording is played back on the HB unit....??

Or is just when playing back in Humviewer...??

Unable to tell as the unit freezes up in SI and DI mode but the clock continues to run in the recorder player view and sonar continues to run.

Good morning all.  I received a response from Tore at Sonar-TRX this morning and I have pasted it below along with my response;  Perhaps someone could research this and answer the following questions at the end of this post for all to view.  I don't mind sharing my mistakes however strange or obvious as long as others can learn from them as well.

This is the email from Tore at Sonar-TRX
Hi Greg,
     I had a look at the raw data in your files, and the elapsed time in the sidescan channels does jump backward when you switch from regular SI transducer to the 360 unit.
     Have you tried to make any recordings with just the 360 unit selected? (i.e. the 200 kHz DI transducer and the 360)
     It would be interesting to see if the time-stamps shown on the sonar display during playback of 360 data has issues too.
     …or if the problem only occur when you toggle back and forth between regular sidescan and the 360 unit during the recording.)
Tore

My response
     I did not think I was switching between the units at all but I may have inadvertantly when I was going through the different views.
     I think I just assumed it continued to record the SI  data.  It kind of makes sense as there is no SI data to record if it goes from the view. Does not explain why the Down image is OK.
     I will try to check that out in the next dry day as we have three days of rain forecast.

Thanks and I will keep you up to date.
Greg

Questions for anyone;
Is anything recorded continuously regardless of what view you have up?
When recording, what is the hierarchy of what is recorded?  In other words if there are multiple sensors available which ones are recorded? ( I did not have the 4FD6 AS-360 400 khz optional sonar selected from the 360 unit.  Just the 360 sensor)  So if it does not record the SI/Down sensor while the 360 was running where did the down image come from?
Will the 360 play back the data if the view is changed from SI to 360 and back etc?  Mine did not...It just showed a stationary sweep line during play back.

OK, this is apparently caused by having the AS360 turning on and deployed and cycling through the views.

I still get some of this occurring on one viewer but I am chalking it up to the translator.
