Title: Recording of SI
Post by: Rocketman783 on August 26, 2009, 10:20:56 AM
I just started using my 798ci and can't figure out how exactly to make a Recording of my Side Image view as I go down a lake.  I can and have made a snapshop, when I try to make a Recording I get a recording of the sonar view not the Si view.

Thanks
Rocky

Rocky,
When you reviewed the sonar recording did you change your unit to show the Si View?  The information should be there and the unit may just have defaulted to the 2D sonar view.  When you make a sonar recording the 798ci should have recorded both the 2D sonar and Si sonar as well as the GPS information.  Check your recording to see if the Si data recorded or not.

Am I understanding this correctly in that the unit records both the sonar view and the SI view? So after I record, I then go to the view page to play the recording and I then go to the Si page to view the recording of the SI? I am very confused sorry!

Thanks for the help
Rocky

Rocky,

Welcome to the forum.  You are correct.  When you start playing back the file, just hit the view button like you would do while in "Live" mode, and it will take you through all the available views. Or, if you have the shortcut buttons, just press the View you would like to see.

Glad to have you on the forum.  Would love to see some snapshots of you recordings.  You can also create your own Album in the Image Gallery (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?action=mgallery) to upload and store images.

Good Luck,

Robert

I think the recording includes the 200kHz the 83 kHz and each SI Side incl. temperature and Positioning Informations), that means you can access all of the viewing pages for that signals with all features, mark waypoints etc..

But be careful, if you want to see ALL Signals in the recording.
Sometimes the Unit (For example a 798) lose one recording channel completely

Last time this happend to me, it has lost the 83kHz Channel and recorded only a few seconds for this frequency.
So the Playback has only the two Si Sides and the 2D from the 200KHz.

Martin (from HumViewer) give me a Hint to that Message http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=155.msg1256#msg1256 (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=155.msg1256#msg1256)
This user has lost only a few seconds, but i have lost all (only a few seconds ar stored)
I believe i have also stored Waypoints while in a recording.(Maybe at the beginning of the recording session)
So that could be a Firmware Problem ?
I will check this at the next Trip on the Water.

I am realy satiesfied with the Playback Function.
Sitting in the Living Room, connect the NMEA Out to the PC, watch the SI on the Headunit and the Course and depth recording on the PC and also see the Positon from the actual SI Image shown on the Headunit in my own map.
Very exiting.

pebe,

Is it possible you switched over to just 200khz while you were recording?  Unless you are specifically needing the 83khz for playback, its best to turn it off, performance wise.

Good Luck,

Robert

Thanks Greg and all for the help. I was out on the lake yesterday and finally got that part figured out. Pretty cool! Will try to figure out how to upload some SI shots. Another quick question. When I'm moving along, 1-2 mph, with my trolling motor looking at the sonar view (transducer on the TM) and see an object on the bottom in like 10' water how far behind the boat is it? What I'm asking is how fast does it update compared to my ancient Lowrance x85 which was pretty slow with objects being about 10 -12' behind the boat?

The view should be real time.  SI is a thin slice sideways as compared to a verticle cone.  GPS will vary with respect to the transducer and GPS antenna location.  I try to have the GPS and transducer located very proximable.  Again in side view your display should be realtime.  Chuck

Sonar View is the 2D sonar.  How far behind the boat (transducer actually) will depend on how fast the boat is moving and the chart update speed.  The easiest way to determine how far behind the boat the object is would be to activate the cursor and place it on top of the object.  Your unit will show how far away from the transducer that the object is.  This works during a sonar recording playback too, so try it out.

Once again thanks. I will give that a try.
