I just bought a 981C SI that has the latest version 4.70 software updates installed.  It has SI and DI scanning capability and GPS.  What my question is now.....I didn't realize this unit didn't have mapping with any Navionics cards.  I didn't realize this was the case before I purchased the unit.  Can anything be done to enable this to utilize a mapping card?  I sure hope something will help me out here.  Txs again!

According to the manual the 981 C SI does not support cartography, does not look good.

The latest software for the 981c Si is version 4.950
No, the 981c Si cannot display maps – even with the latest software installed.  It is a trackplotter type unit and so will only display a blank Lat/Lon grid and the waypoints that you enter – no maps.

“GPS capable” unit Chuck.  This was done as a stripped down and less costly version of the 987c Si unit at the time.  It is the only non-Chartplotter type Si unit that we have made.  We have made many GPS capable or “Trackplotter” type units but they are not as popular as a full “Chartplotter” type unit.

Anybody want to buy this one????  I didn't realize it couldn't support mapping options from Navionics until i had already bought it and installed on my boat.  I'll take 875 bucks and it's got everything you can get with these units...GPS module is new.  You can reach me at    gaf11@ms.metrocast.net          Txs again   Glynn
