How do you get navionics to work?
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:21:43 PM »
Hi again.  Sorry to be a pain.  Just got home with my new navionics midwest SD card.  Plugged it in and started 898 up.  I thought it was supposed to load itself.  Got nothing.  Tried to look quick for answer here, but it's getting late and wife and I are getting up early tomorrow to go try a new lake - two hours away.  Would like to use my new navionics on this lake.  Can someone help me out real quick so I can use it?

thanks again,  iowafuzz

I believe with Navionics chips you have to select the area you want to look at. Go to the chart menu tab, scroll down to chart select and hit the right cursor arrow and then select the area you want. I have a Lakemaster chip but have used Navionics and they cover a huge area so the different geographical areas have to be selected. At least that is how I remember doing it. There are other members here with vastly more experience than I, maybe someone else will chime in.

Not so with the Navionics mapping cards.  You just plug them in and they will load the maps into the unit for the area that you are either in or have moved the cursor to on the map view.

Make sure that you are viewing a lake that is covered by the mapping card and that you are at a zoom level where you can see the added detail when it loads.

Unless you have more than one map card in the unit you do not have to worry about selecting anything in the menus.

I just went and put a Navionics chip in my units 788 and 998 didn't have to do anything but turn them on. :)

iowafuzz:
On my 1197, under the Chart menu, there
is a 'Chart Select' option.
If you have that, then set it to 'Auto'.
That way, no matter which slot you put
the Navionics chip in, it will still work.

Thanks everyone for your time and answers.   Got it figured out and can work it.  I was trying to use my Menu to bring it up, but instead it is the View button that does the job.  Don't know why they can't put some kind of directions in the package for what it costs. Thanks again and the fishing trip wasn't real good.  Got ten 9inchers, but nothing real good.

thanks, iowafuzz

When HB was shipping a manual it was in the book. Now if you dont get a manual it is a bit hard to determine what it is you want to select without going thru all of the menus and options.
you can download the manuals here or from HB.
But they will be electronic and not printed..
It is worth the time to have a copy of the book..

After I bought my 998 last year and registered it, I contacted Customer Support via email and asked for a hard copy of the owners manual and they sent me one, very helpful. Maybe they don't do that anymore?

they were shipping hard copy on request for a while.  I would suppose as the copies ran out they then  would send electronic files..
It was a cost reducing issue..

Wonder what 4 pages to a side would look like if we printed the cd.  and if a printing company could print for us with out too much of a cost..
I think it was Roddy that was trying to put the manual on his ipod or something..

Which one do you guys like the most?
Navtronics or Lake master?

Got any screen shots to compare them?

Navionics is great if you are on a lake that they have
done a high definition survey on.

Never seen or used Lakemaster.
I hear they are good.

I think people would have one or the other, but not both for
the same waters.

Simple Fix. Go to Chart>Spot Soundings>show all>

It's default to hidden for some reason. :)
