Title: Track depth data
Post by: Kokanee on April 14, 2013, 04:07:31 PM
1) Somewhere I read that if you do not export track data from the unit to the SD before powering unit down, you will loose the depth data. Is this true? I will wait for an answer before collecting track data to use in DrDepth.

2) When you download the unit or SD into HB PC, you are downloading a Copy, not Moving the data?

598 SI and HB PC v 4.3.8 w/Windows 7

PS: Thanks Greg for recommending upgrading XNT-9-SI-180-T to an HDSI. I did it and can see great detail at 90'+ in my local lake. The customer service rep (Glenda) was great and allowed our respective transducers to cross in the mail, getting me on the water in 5 days.

1. Not the case, at least with the units I have used.  (997, 1198). The *was* (is?) an incredibly annoying bug whereby all the depths in the current track would be lost if the track filled the 21000 track point allocation and started writing over itself from the beginning. As far as I know, the current track was fine so long as that hadn't happened but useless thereafter - until reset with a 'clear current track'. Saved tracks are also fine, so once you've got the data you want hit 'save current track'. You have 50 slots to play with.

2. Correct.

It is my understanding that you will lose water depth data in any track that is not saved before you power off the unit.  Exporting the data has no effect on this.  Just make sure that you save the tracks that you want before you try and export them and you should be fine.
