Title: Weather Sense issue
Post by: Stumpy on May 20, 2011, 11:42:29 PM
Lately when out on my boat my sounder keeps displaying " Weather sense disconnected " at random times. So before I ventured out again I removed the unit, changed the battery, checked all connections were OK and re assembled it back in position. I went out yesterday and every now and then it keeps giving me the disconnected prompt on the screen. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Mark

I have a weather sense installed on my system, initially I did have some problems being in various stages of being disconnected.  Ended up getting a good connection and taping it together.  Don't know what your issue is but it may work.

Mark,
Check the connections as George stated.  It wouldn’t hurt to very slightly bend the pins so that they make a firmer connection.

Rule out the AS-YC cable by plugging the WeatherSense module directly into your 858c unit.  You can do this with the boat on the trailer.

If this does not help than you will need to contact the Humminbird Customer resource folks as it could be the WeatherSense starting to go bad.

Cheers Greg, I will try all your suggestions and see if there is any improvement. I've already contacted the boys in the Queensland customer service area and they said ship it up for an inspection, so I probably will do this anyway as the problem seems to only occur randomly.
By the way, is there a newer model because on some web sites they are selling a grey model
not the usual yellow?

No, it’s the same model.  We use the same housing for the WeatherSense that we used for other products.  When we first started selling these we did not have the Gray/Black housings so we just used the yellow ones.  I think that someone got their part numbers crossed as we used the yellow housings for some time after that before finally switching to the gray/black ones that we intended to use all along.  So some web sites show the yellow and some show the gray/black housings but they still work the same.

When I purchased mine, I observed both the yellow and gray weather sense available and could not find a difference between the two colors.  Not sure that color indicates the unit's issue dates maybe Greg knows.
