I have the original transducer on one boat, but I need to buy a new transducer for the new boat.  If I get the HD transducer for the new boat, will I have to change settings every time I switch the unit from one boat to the other?

Are there any problems having different transducers on each boat?

I've done the same thing; most of the time there will be little or no changes to make, other than corrections as water conditions may change a little.

Thanks, Blackwater.  I went ahead and ordered the HD transducer.  Do you find much difference in the display with the 2 transducers?

Very little, if any at all, difference between the two, unless I use my 998 with the portable transducer, which is for a 797, so I don't get the higher definition, but it still works pretty well. When I use the 797 on the portable, it works as well as the boat and transducer I normally run it on.  :)

It seems that I may not see any difference with the HD.  I usually like to get the latest technology, but I can save myself some installation time (since both boats are already set for the original transducer) and a little money if I get another non HD transducer.

Does anyone think that I would get any benefit from the HD transducer with the 798 ci si?

Freeline,
Some notice a difference using the HDSi transducer with the 798 or 797 units and some don’t.  Almost everyone sees the difference though when you look at a screen snapshot on a larger display, like the one on your computer.

Thanks, Greg.  Will the HD mounting bracket fit the same holes as the original transducer bracket that I will be removing?

No they will not Freeline.  These transducers use different mounting hardware which have different mounting hole patterns.
