Title: Renaming tracks
Post by: afaust on June 12, 2016, 05:06:37 PM
When getting the info from my sad card, I want to keep the info organized, but still want to keep the info on the card for now. Can I rename the files and directories, and if so, are there specific rules to ensure no issues? I.e. One track is 000001 with a directory named like this as well as other files with the same name. Can I change the directory name? Can I change the file names as well with something more logical for my mapping and planning?

I found this info (I don't use saved Tracks myself so I have no experience in your query) ...

Thx Rickie,

I had a quick look and I had used Humviewer to export the files to Google Earch, and I was able to see tracks in GE. I didnt realize humminbird PC could do something similar. I will be looking into it this week. Thx again.

Is your file type set on gpx rather than humminbird when trying to see/import?

Also you cannot rename those tracks i.e. 00003.ht on the sd card itself. You must open them in hbirdPC then you can rename the tracks/waypoints to your hearts content, and save them to your computer or back to the SD card. Note they will still show up as 00003.ht when you save or export them within the matrix file itself on the sd card. The actual names are contained within. Don't know if that makes sense or not.

I tried changing the file type to humminbird as well, under file open, files of type hummingbird, and the software doesn't see anything on the card at all, even though the folders and files are all there when looking in windows explorer.

Yes the file naming makes sense in that the unit uses the 00003.ht for its own use, and you'd see your renamed info on the screen when selecting it.... Thx for that info...

I suggest you to use an APP to merge your HT files so you can maximize them on each one of the so you get a maximum 21800K of tracks points inside.

Here are the steps I do to maximize them so we have less files to backup and manage.

1) Open the HT file with Humminbird PC
-this will create a GPX file for each HT file you select
2) Use the attach program on this thread that I have made of to merge on disired quantity of tracks

enjoy
