Powering up 898 on shore
« on: February 11, 2013, 02:22:46 PM »
I want to power up the 898 in the comfort of my home. Is there an off the shelf connector that I can solder onto my power adapter cable? or do I need to purchase a stand alone power cable from Humminbird, then modify it to my power adapter?

What is the price of the Humminbird cable?
Thanks.

Hi Buster

With some skill, you can save yourself an expensive original cable. Put the wire ends directly into the two openings on the back of your device and fix this example then with toothpicks. added a bit rustic, but cheap. Important note polarity!

I did the plug the wires in the back for one night, but I deemed it generally unsafe for my unit and my power supply.  The best deal I found on the cable was from Amazon.com,   I used an old laptop power supply and a 2a fuse.   Maybe one day someone will start making these things to power some FCC approved device with the same power requirements... ;)

I call this "The Nest." I used an old Wide Eye base for my 788 HD DI. I bought a cord for my 898 HD SI and a new mount from Amazon. I use a 12 volt converter I've had for many years.  I put a two amp inline fuse to be on the safe side and mounted it all on a 1X12 board 30 inches long.
