Johno,

I am at a loss on this one!  I have never seen this issue before.

Have you tried your head unit on someone elses boat?  Or tried someone elses unit on your boat?

If it isn't the head unit, then it must have to do with the transducer!

Bottom line, its either going to be a bad transducer, bad software or bad head unit.  No settings will fix the issue there.

Try to switch out the head unit to someone elses boat if possible.  The only other thing could be to try to backdate the software and see if it is still present.  If so, we know its not a software issue.  If it goes away, you could try to reinstall the latest update and see what happens.

Good Luck,

Robert

I've had the same problem with mine at times.  I dont have anyone to switch the units to check anything with mine.  I get a milky look on the right side mostly which varies from time to time.  Only once did I get the double image like your post.  Mine also tends to be better early however it usually doesnt get any worse than this picture now.  I also played with my contrast on the unit to lesson some of the milky effect.

From the picture that Carl posted it appears that somthing is interferring with the right transducer element.

Nothing is on the rightside.  My transducer is mounted on the right side of the motor.  However I believe I am picking up some air bubbles indicated by the black bars running in the picture.  Those come and go with speed.  I have my transducer mounted fairly high so that it doesnt drag when on plane.  I did this because I run an older depthfinder when running and use just the GPS on the Humminbird.  Could we be seeing these issues on the right side because the boat is slightly tilted on that side with one person in the boat?  Also, I do not see much of the issue on my actual unit because I have adjusted the contrast.  I only see this amount when I bring the files into humviewer.

How is the transducer wired in to the unit?  Does it go straight to the unit or do you have any other transducers, switches, or Y cables?  If so, please remove them and plug the transducer directly into the unit and lets us know the results.

Have you guys updated the units to the latest software?  Or did you do the rollback like I mentioned above.  It could be software related.  If you have not updated to the latest version, go ahead and do that.

If you already have the latest version, I would backdate the unit to the previous software version, and see if the problem is still there.

Please remember:
- Remove all SD cards from the unit,
- Power on Unit,
- Restore Defaults,
- Insert SD card with update,
- Follow Prompts to perform update,
- Unit will flash for a few seconds, then give a green box saying update complete,
- Unit will then reboot, remove SD card,
- Restore Defaults again.

If that does not work, you will need to return the units to Humminbird.

Any air bubbles at the transducer will distort the signal received. Yes I agree with you on the horizontal lines on the one display. I see that on our unit with cavitation or bubbles. Also when running over another boats wake.
How the boat is loaded also affects the display. Tilting will produce different displays. So if you have one or two or three people in the boat it can change the angle of the transducer.

I have no y cables.  It is directly linked to the unit.  I saw this issue with my unit when I bought it approximately 2 years ago and the updates didnt help any.  I've also noticed that it seems to be worse when the water warms over the summer.  During the colder months I still have some issues but not near as bad.  The picture with the rocks was taken in the winter and the other during the summer.  Dont know if this has any relevance but I have thought that it may have something to do with it.  My settings on my si are sensitivity at 12, contrast 11 and chart speed 4.  No sharpening.  This has given me the best picture on my unit with little or no issues and I fish a lake that is fairly clear (approximately 8 ft visiability).  However humviewer does tend to amplify it some.

Is is possible to lower the transducer temporarly to see what happens?  Or another idea is to tilt the transducer to the right a bit.  see if it moves to the left display.

have done latest update did not change , have lowerd tranducer  as low posable have tilted left and right no change .starting to think the head unit is not right as the auto sensitivity dose nothing but full sensitivity and can not see anything but noise in right water colum and the bottom is that bright you can not make anything out .most of the time i have to run the sensitivity about 1-2 in 40ft deep and 60ft wide even at 80ft deep 150ft wide is 3-4 any higher just get to mutch noise to see enything on the right
