Title: Unit Freezing When Uploading Tracks
Post by: gametimehoop on June 09, 2021, 11:59:12 AM
HELIX 5 SONAR GPS - Software version 7.730

Unit works great when converting .kml > .gpx > MyhumminbirdPC for uploading waypoints.

However, when trying this for Tracks, the unit freezes up every time.

I have tried:
Restoring factory defaults, clearing all waypoint and track data, uploading only 1 single (5 point) track.  Unit Freezes
Saving track as a .kml then converting to .ht via gpsbabel, then uploading through MyhumminbirdPC.  MyhumminbirdPC forces the .ht file to be converted to .gpx then put it on my card.  Unit Freezes

I have worked with Humminbird technical support for days, and we cannot solve the issue.

After clearing the unit, did you try formatting Nav Directory before loading the new data?

I am creating .kml files in Google Earth Pro (Desktop application).   Waypoints work fine, just not tracks.

And, no I didn't think i saw the "Format Nav Directories" in the Setup or Navigation tabs.    My unit is a Gen1 Helix 5.  But, I will look for this again.

Reformat Nav Directory should be under Setup Menu.  May need to set User Mode (Setup Menu) to Advanced or Custom.  The reason I mentioned it was when you erased or delete Nav Data it doesn't correct glitches in the format. Since you have deleted everything, now would be a good time to do it before loading any new data.
Are you using GPSBabel to convert the *.KML file to a *.GDB format (Garmin) before importing to HB PC?  Then when you save it to the SD card, it should be in a Matrix folder as a xxx.HT file for a track.

The attached image shows a couple of tracks created for a tire reef at one of our local lakes and using that same process.
