A couple ONIX how to questions
« on: June 16, 2014, 01:18:04 AM »
I'm really liking my new ONIX units. Although I am struggling with learning the new menu... I was so familiar with the old menu. lol

So a couple questions, how do I:

- zoom in GPS to a scale less than 100 feet? I'm pretty sure I could zoom into to 20'on my 1198
- have the wpt name/number show up on the map with out having to highlight it?

Prolly many more questions to come.

just thought I'd follow up on this in case anyone has similar questions.

Re: the zoom - I can now zoom into a 50 foot scale, I'm not sure exactly what I did, but I did a factory reset, which may have cleared the declutter setting, or some other setting I had... still playing with the settings. I also enabled Easy View... so that may have helped. I'll play more with it later.

Re: the waypoint numbers not showing up - I found that in each waypoint I could adjust it to show the ICON and NAME. I also found that I could adjust the default setting for future waypoints to show the ICON and NAME. The probably was I could find a place to BULK adjust all the waypoints I had... the 900 I transferred on there, plus 50 new ones I added last weekend. Being a computer guy and knowing the export GPX file is simply an XML file, I was able to manually adjust all of them.. caution, you could mess up all you waypoints!... So I exported the GPX file, opened it in a text editor, found the visability , I think that was it, XML tag, and did a replace all from "ICON", to "ICON and NAME". Saved the file and imported back to the unit. Presto... problem solved.

If someone knows of a way to do bulk waypoint adjustments on the unit please let me know. Perhaps a recommendation for the next software release.

I replaced my 1198 and 898, with an Onix 10SI and Onix 8. Actually did a full Johnson revamp this spring, replaced the 101 fortrex with the new 112, and the two 8' talons with 10 footers. lol

I'd like to go with the Onix as well, but haven't been able to commit yet.

Is the 8 a SI or 2d unit......wondering because the 2d one can share the SI

Bob,
The ONIX units come in four different models: two 8 inch and two 10 inch.  Each size comes in either 2D or Si.
According to what CharlesS posted he has a 10 inch Si model and an 8 inch 2D model but can share the Si sonar between them.

Charles are you running with a hub, and do you have I link?  Trying to find someone that has similar setup as we are having some issues and would like to find out how they have resolved any issues. Which software version? Thanks!
