It's a dream coming true.
« on: February 19, 2015, 09:29:25 AM »

To get a little background, here's a little bit about me;

http://www.wqow.com/global/video/popup/pop_playerLaunch.asp?vt1=v&clipFormat=flv&clipId1=7427723&at1=Promotion 12&h1=One for the Gimp - 6/22/12&flvUri=&partnerclipid=

So a few years ago I started saving my pennies and after a couple of years finally had enough in the jar for a 998 SI. It's been a couple of years since then and I've been working on filling the jar back up. I have a dream and wanted to get some feedback to see if I missed some fundamental error that would stop this project in its tracks.

I am going to get the Venture Outdoors 6T boat;

And build a small platform on the back deck to accommodate a Minn Kota PowerDrive V2 with the iPilot Link networked to the 998. Of course pending what the friendly neighborhood loan officer says.

Yup, I know it's a bow mounted TM and I'll be going backwards. I'm rowing backwards, too. No big deal. Yup, I know I can get the shaft shortened. I'll probably do that when I install the iLink head onto the TM. That brings up my first question.

Anyone know if the iPilot head is compatible with the Minn Kota PD V2 45/48 motor? I know it's good to go on the 55lb. motors on up, but I can't seem to get a straight answer on the 45 lb. motor.

Second question; I understand the iLink head comes with 30 ft. of Ethernet cable. I don't need 30 ft of cable on a 6 ft. boat but spending $55 on a 10 footer seems excessive. Anyone have issues with a coiled up 30 footer?

That's it for now. It's -23*F here this morning. -40*F with the windchill. Still, it won't be long before the ice starts to thaw and I'm hoping to have this project done by then. Are loan officers easily bribed with cookies?

I got it set up enough for a test run. So far it is fun. I don't have the intestinal fortitude to get the throttle past 7. The spot lock isn't made for very short/light boats and does some crazy things when the wind switches direction a lot. And it is fun. Liberating, in fact.

Gimp,
You are a true inspiration.
You've got a great, positive attitude, and a real passion for fishing.
Listening to the video, it's obvious that you know a heck of a lot about fishing, and you are a real thinker.
That's a really neat set-up you have there.
Follow your passion, and I wish you the very best.

       +1 on what ITG said.    As Kevin VamDam says, " it’s all about the attitude! "
