Helix 7 Imaging Noise
« on: May 08, 2020, 01:17:17 AM »
I just traded my old boat for a new Lund with a dealer installed Helix 7 MSI G3 on the console.  I had it out for the first time tonight and both the DI and SI had all kinds of noise on the screen.  On the SI, the left side was much worse than the right side.  I tried multiple speeds, depths, bottom type and all was the same.  The 2D sonar was clear the entire time.  Any ideas?

I can’t tell for sure  ...

Is there something on the port side transom ??

Also the motor needs to be trimmed up out of the way when scanning  ...

Thanks for the response.  The only thing port side on the transom is the intake for the livewell.  It's the exact same setup as my old boat had and I always had crystal clear scans regardless of where the engine was trimmed, so I'm guessing something else is going on. Also the DI was worse than the SI, so wouldn't that rule out the outboard position as a cause? I'm just guessing. Dealer today thought possibly the Y split connector was causing an issue or possibly a bad transducer.  I'm wondering if something was installed incorrectly?

A good first troubleshooting step would be to remove the xducer from the transom, attach it to a pole and stick it farther down in the water  ...

This is a conclusive test for determining if something on the transom is causing an obstruction  ...
