on my 1197 i have saved a 10 mile route with 20 waypoints to travel the mississippi after dark. it works great when i start from either the beginning or the end. i get confused when i try to start this route from someplace near the middle. the nav feature tries to steer me to start at one end or the other, depending on if i enter forward / reverse. what am i missing?

It is going to want to start you there each time since the route is considerd a pre-planned track that you will follow.
You should be able to just move/skip to the next waypoint in the route until you are where you need to be, and then go from there.
