The image on my 1197 is perfectly clear, yet when I replay the data with HumViewer, I have noise that appears as dashed lines running laterally across the image.  Does the unit have a noise filter that is not incorporated in HumViewer?  The noise is there in both the side scan images and the down scan images on replay.  Any clues?

I also have to say that I am very happy to be able to record and playback.  The 1197 is a great unit, but adding these features makes it a spectacular unit.

I get the same in playback or humview.  what dictates the noise is the motor at the time of use.  Some of our boats have the noise others dont.  It also depend on the transducer location.

Select your noise level to low....I noticed yesterday on mine doing the same thing and had my noise interference off then swithced back to low and the white dots went away.

kerno,

Welcome to the forum.  HumView is a 3rd party app that is not put out by Humminbird so it does not offer all the filters and other features HB has on their units.  It is quite complicated to filter out through the software on playback and alot of these mathematical algorithms used by Humminbird are trade secrets or even pattented.

I wish I could help more.

Good Luck,

Robert

I need some help here!  Where is the noise level adjustment you are referring to?

Check that you are in advanced mode.  Highlite Noise Filter on the sonar main Menu. Then select the setting you want.  Try several settings to get your best display.

Got it!  I am still bemused that the image on the screen of unit is perfectly clear, yet the recorded data is not.  Is there a filter in the video portion of the unit that is used for its own display, but is not active in recording?

The unit is recording the raw data coming in which has the noise.  As it is being processed or played back, the unit is filtering out the noise so you don't see it on the screen.

When you play back the recording on the computer, the recording still contains the noise.  HumViewer does not have a noise filter and therefore you are seeing the noise as it was recorded.

Hope that makes sense.
