898c, no 83 Khz.
« on: August 02, 2014, 10:57:10 AM »
Definate Newbie here.  My 898c shows blank screen on any 83Khz Sonar.  200Khz works fine.   Unit is on 6.740 .

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Installed latest update (7.090), still no 83 Khz views.   Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this happening in Normal operation or in the Simulator...??

(BTW Doug forgot to turn on his 83kHz beam when he recorded the Simulator for some of the models)...

Mine is happening in normal mode on water.....I think. The reason I say I think is because when toggling to 83 kHz mode the screen is white and I would toggle back to 83/200. While using fish ID I have seen blue and gold fish...which tells me 83 kHz must be working. I found a post somewhere this morning that says when switching to view the 83 kHz screen it takes a little while for image to appear. I don't know what is meant by a "little while" so I need to get back on water to see if an image appears in 83 kHz and if it does how long does it take to pop in on the screen. As I said I would only stay on 83 kHz screen for a few seconds as I never saw anything so I immediately switched back. I would think though that when toggling to 83 kHz the image should appear instantly. I am aware that 83 kHz does not work in sim mode as recording was not made using that frequency.

I would suggest trying a Restore Defaults...

There may be some settings out of whack and this should put the unit settings in a setup that should allow all features to work ...

Then tweaking will just "hone in" on user preferences...

Thanks much. Will try that. I have had the unit since March and I fish 4 or 5 days a week out of kayak and it has truly changed the way I fish......I won't put the kayak in without it.

Alphahawk,

Mine was in the Simulator mode.  I was under the impression that all functioned the same as in Simulator.

Also, I did restore defaults, the same result; however, still in Simulator Mode.  Would this have been my problem?

Thank You.

The Simulator is basically a recording that is hard coded into the unit...

Doug Vahrenberg made the recording and he just failed to turn on the 83kHz beam because his normal fishing setup uses the 200kHz only setting for vertical fishing...

The 83kHz and the 83kHz/200kHz should still work in the unit while in Normal operation...(on the water of course)....

I used my unit last night with a 45 minute recording I had made using 83/200 combo. I would play recording and then switch settings to 83 kHz only. The screen would be blank. I then reset unit to defaults as you suggested. I started the recording again and switched to 83 kHz only and while it took about a minute for the screen to show an image it appeared. I was then able to switch back and forth between the modes and see the difference each mode displayed. I set the unit back up the way I wanted it and once again checked to see if the 83 kHz screen was showing display...and it was. I have been fishing with the unit in 83/200 kHz mode ever since I got it. While on the water I would switch to 83 kHz mode and it was always blank and I assumed this was a software issue that would get solved. I am heading out to the water now and am confident it is working properly now. Thanks very much for your help.

Just got off the water and mine works fine. This is the first time I have seen 83 kHz work on water. I went to default before I upgraded software but had never set it back to default after the software upgrade after I made adjustments. That seemed to do the trick....thanks.

Sure will, rnvinc, as soon as I learn how!  Working on it and hope it won't be too long.

Thanks,
Tad
