Need help with my 999 please
« on: February 27, 2016, 05:39:09 PM »
I've had it for a while now but I just can't seem to get it dialed in. It seems to work great at times in certain water conditions and then horrible at times. I think I may just be goofing with the settings to much. While I know this is subjective I'm hoping someone can give me some good starting settings based on the conditions I fish most? Which "beam select", "imaging frequency", sensitivity level...etc?
I fish saltwater 60'-300'

Thanks in advance

I struggled with my 999 for over a year before I finally put my fishing rod down, read a bunch of stuff on this forum and then just spent time staring at the 999 screen while I made simple adjustments to see what would happen.  The last year has been much better.  The one thing I did that made ALL the difference was slow my boat down.  My boat apparently generates turbulence pretty easy and anything above 3.8mph really affected the SI/DI not so much the 2D sonar.  I had been cruising at 5mph and getting poor SI/DI images.  At 3.8 they are darn near text book.  Still experimenting with screen colors.

Here's Dougs recommended starting settings ...

I might add that it is very important to frequently adjust the SI Sensitivity setting ... Bottom composition, water depth, and water clarity have a huge impact on how bright and dark the SI image will display due to the intensity of the return sound pulse ...

*Press Menu 1 time while viewing SI ...
*Cursor down to "SI Enhance" ...
*Cursor right to overlay the "SI Enhance" menu over the SI image ...

Use the "SI Sensitivity" setting as a brightness control for the Enviromental conditions that are constantly affecting the SI image ...
