Title: Waypoints
Post by: Hollywood on March 08, 2011, 07:03:36 AM
My question is when you finally find your "spot" and mark the waypoint how do you know how to return to that spot next time out? The 898cSI save 3000 waypoints and everytime you take a snapshot it marks another one. So when you see it flash waypoint saved do you have to quickly mark down the number of that point or go back and rename it? This is something I have not figured out yet and want to use it this season. Thanks, Hollywood

It helps a lot to rename the waypoint to something you can remember.
my waypoints get renamed,The first couple letters are usually the same as the first couple in the name of the lake. that way they sort themselves by lake. then i add more letters that mean something to me. for instance." RP " if it is a rock pile, "RB" for road bed. what ever works for you.
to get back to the waypoint you just click menu>menu>Nav>waypoints>GO to>select the waypoint you want to go to. that will create a track you can follow to the waypoint. if you are on a chart screen. a mini menu comes up on the fist click. then just click> waypoint> goto>select the waypoint you want to go to.

Thanks a lot. I did some more reading on it and think I got it. As long as you save it and rename it it will be easy to find. How are you able to rename them, does it provide a keypad to type in a name or do you have to do it from your PC. The naming part is the only hurdle I think I need to cross. Thanks, Hollywood

to rename  you go Menu.menu>nav>waypoint>edit>select the one you want to change. highlight the current name, use the up/down arrow to scroll to different letters and numbers. keep them short, max length is 11 letters
