Title: screenshot question
Post by: basssfishing on April 01, 2014, 10:31:51 PM
This is my first post, I am a newbie.  :P But my question is..... What do you guys think this is under the boat? weeds? structure? Maybe even fish? I have only had my 798 for like a week...! Any help would be extremely helpful! Thank you!

April 1,2014, Connecticut. Question, how did you get going .3mph through all that ice? Must have been a hot water discharge at a power plant.
Welcome to the site basssfishing. All kidding aside, when making a recording, the slowest boat speed you would want is 2 to 3mph until you become
more familiar with your unit.  Match your chart speed to the boat speed, ie, boat 2,chart2.. boat3,chart3..etc. Also on your SI range, try 3 to 5 times
your water depth. You were in 11', so try 40 to 50' on SI range and see if you don't get a better image.
In HumViewer try this. Go back to the recording that you took the screen shot on. With the recording stopped, put your cursor over the SI part of the screen, right click on the image and a drop down menu will show. The bottom two choices will be crop from and crop to. Click on crop to and you will get different choices on the range. Choose one that is about 4 times your depth and you will see the image change. You can also do this in the 2D image. Right click on the 2D image and choose a crop to number equal to the depth plus a few feet. See what you think.

Surprisingly, we haven't had ice for about a week or two. I have my unit set up on my trolling motor, due to the fact that I do not have a console boat. I have a 12 1/2 ft jon boat that I converted to a bass boat. I am having problems with my picture, it seems to cloud up. I will include a picture below!  ;D btw thank you for responding!

I understand you situation. Still, I think you will like your image better if you try the crop to. In your SI image, your out at 100' in 9' at the boat. That's 11 times your depth. Try bringing the SI range closer in each step and see what happens.

what newkid said...you will see better detail from the start with that advise.  boat speed and chart speed like spoke of above will come with time on the water but for now match or be 1 or 2 above.

For just having the unit a week, still a good looking shot.   It only gets better from here.

 Keep the shots coming
