998 c si to 788ci HD DI with Ethernet ?
« on: June 25, 2014, 04:29:24 PM »
I was told these two units will share way points but I have never been able to get it to work. Will they share data or was I mis-led? I downloaded the ethernet manual and follwed it to the letter but I can't get them to share.
Thanks

Ethernet-ed units can "see" each other's waypoints if...:

*Both units are powered on...
*Both units are enabled to "Share Waypoints" under the network tab...

http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=2052.0

The waypoints from the Slave unit will be seen in Green text on the Master unit's chart views...(the Master unit is the unit the waypoint was actually "Marked" on...)

Physical transferring of waypoints from one unit's memory to another unit's memory is not accomplished with Ethernet ...(as it was in the old Interlink system)...

i haven't updated either unit in a while. Last time I did the 998 went haywire and had to be sent in to be repaired. So if I mark a waypoint on the 998 at the helm, it should show up on the 788 on the bow as long as both units are powered on and enabled?

Thanks for the replys....
Matt

So Matt... what software version are you running in each unit?

Greg,
The 998 software is 6.18 and the 788 is 6.25

Those software versions should work together.

ok, thanks Greg. I will keep trying, I must be doing something wrong. Should they share existing waypoints and routes from an SD card or will they only share the ones created real time on the water?

If you load waypoints, routes and tracks with an SD card they are loaded into that unit’s memory and they should work just like they were originally made on that unit.

so they will not share previous recorded points? Say i'm in the garage and power on both units, insert an sd card, should I be able to see the same points on both units or only the one with the SD card in it?

Yes and yes.
When you insert the SD card with the waypoints on it into one unit they should load into that unit.  Those same waypoints will be than shared with the second unit.

I deleted all nav data from both units, to be sure I was loading fresh waypoints. I went to the lake today and inserted sd card with only that lake on it. Both units showed the same new waypoints. Then I marked a new waypoint at the helm and low and behold it was on the 788 on the bow! Awesome stuff! Thanks for all of your help!
