No snapshots
« on: August 08, 2011, 09:41:00 AM »
After installing navionics platinumn card. I can no longer take snapshots. I have a 4gb card in one slot and the navionics in another. I can remove the navionics card and take snapshots.

cj,
Have you tried
Putting your old Navionics card back in and trying snapshots?
Swapping card slots?

OR assigning which slot is for your map card?
Menu:
Menu:
Chart: TAB
Scroll down to chart and select left right or auto.

Gee that broke easy.

I have seen other 889s with this problem.. May be a code issue...As Nicko, suggested try assigning the slot.
I would think HB would figure out (by code) what is in each slot and not try to write to a Nav card, only a card that is not protected or a non-nav card..
We should not have to do this..
Maybe they can get some fix on this..
Chuck..

I had the same problem.  Was using a 4 GB card.  Make sure it is a scandisk card.  Second, try another card.  My card was accually bad.

The Chart Select menu will only give you both options (left-right or top-bottom) if you have two mapping cards installed and not one mapping card and a blank SD memory card installed.

First thing I would do is to try swapping the map card and SD card around to see if they work in the opposite slots.

If the 4GB memory card still does not work I would try reformatting it using the proper formatting software from the SD Association:
https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/

If that does not help that I would update the software version you have in your unit.  I vaguely remember a software update to some of the units that had something to do with map cards and both SD card slots… but that’s about it.  Updating your software will ensure that you have whatever this fix was for.

If none of that helps I would try a new 4GB SDHC memory card.  We recommend the SanDisk brand.

I am updated to current version. 4 g scandisk will work when map card is not installed. Install map card and will not write to card. I will try switching them up tonight. Thanks everyone!

Here is what I have found. Card will not write with navionics chip in other slot. Remove navionics and will write to card regardless of slot cards are in. Tried a different card with the navionics chip in and all is well. For some reason this card does not like the navionics card. So new card and everything is working. Thanks for all the help.

SD cards do have a life cycle.  Sometimes I think it makes a big difference in whether we delete files or reformat.

ITG......when we delete files on a card or disk does it wipe out the index. or could this be contributing to the problem.
Would it be better to do the format (longer or full).
Could the file type of FAT be getting corrupted and fixed with the format.
Chuck

Good questions Chuck.
I have deleted files off of SD cards and turned around and used them again and had to reformat them so that they would work.  I get in the habit now of reformatting the SD cards I use quite often.
