Images and Questions
« on: May 09, 2011, 09:47:05 AM »
These are some images I took this weekend.  There seems to be something giong on in the sonar reading between 0 and 5 feet.  Does anybody know what this is?  Secondly, on the side scan you can see some shallow readings on the left side of the boat.  Anybody know what this is?  Are the sonar interference and side scan reading related?

In shallow water the sonar signal is very strong. You will have to adjust senitivity and play with the settings a bit to filter out the top water clutter and the strong bottom returns...
In the HB units auto settings are not always the best.  just a starting place......

BaitCaster,
That 5 foot thick layer of sonar return at the top of the 2D sonar display looks to be from surface clutter.  Looks like you may have had the 83kHz sonar turned on as well.  Try it with only the 200kHz turned on and see if it decreases.  You may have to go in and adjust the Surface Clutter menu as well.

The constant vertical line to the left of the centerline on the left Si sonar looks to be from either a physical blockage by something on your boat (motor, livewell intake, ladder,…) or could be from the air bubbles coming off the left side of the hull.  Try shutting the motor down and allow the boat to drift and see if it disappears or not.  If it does than its air bubbles causing this and if doesn’t than its something to the left of the SI transducer blocking and reflecting some of the left Si sonar.  Try trimming the motor up and see if it goes away or not.
