Title: Low Voltage
Post by: fisherdee on March 24, 2014, 10:35:47 AM
I was checking the low voltage alarm.  I have no idea what a good setting should be.  Do most of you just use the Auto setting? How accurate or  useful is this information?  Am I missing something here or is this just for the tech geeks?  I have read my 1198 manual and it say if you don't turn it on it uses 7.5 low to 21.0 high.

I run a dedicated isolated battery for my head unit. It is a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery and I don't like to let it run below 12.5 volts so the alarm is handy. For regular SLA batteries I could see running it a lot lower, but it would still be nice to have the alarm to let you know when the battery is about to take a dump.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but what lithium ion battery do you use?....Those look nice, but expensive.

Bioenno 20 Amp. It'll get me thru a day (14-16 hours) on the water with plenty to spare.

I would set it to 11.5 or 12.0 volts. Any lower than that and it’s a sign that you are using up the capacity on your battery or a cell is starting to go bad – and who wants to push start a boat?

How long have you had it?  I see they are rated for 2000 charge cycles
