Title: renaming waypoints
Post by: bassin101 on June 19, 2012, 08:10:33 AM
Hey Guys,
New to the forum and in need of some pointers. Just got the Humminbird 798ci HD SI Combo and everything seems to going good but I can't figure out how to rename the waypoints. Do I need to connect the unit to my PC? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There are three ways to go about doing this:
1.) You can rename them in the unit itself by going into the waypoint menu and use the Edit function to rename them.  Depending on what software you have in your 798ci HD Si will depend on where it is.

2.) Export your waypoint data to an SD/SDHC memory card and upload it to HumminbirdPC and rename them there.  I like this option better if you have more than a few waypoints that you want to change the names for.

3.) You can buy/make the Humminbird PC Connect cables and import the waypoints from your 798ci HD Si unit into HumminbirdPC and rename them that way as well.

#1 is the cheapest way to go about this.
#2 is the most reasonable IMHO as all that is involved is the cost of the SD/SDHC memory card.
I would only use #3 if I already had the PC Connect cables or if I was planning on buying them for another reason.  I have a set of these in my office but usually still use an SD memory card.
