ok guys. first time recording on my 1198 and im trying to use humviewer to view my data from the day and im not sure how to get it to work. Been trying to figure it out but no luck. I copied the files from my card to my computer. I open humviewer, click file, open, click on record, R0002. Now this is where im getting confused. I have a choice between .DAT files and in the other folder i have .IDX and .SON Files. When i click on either the .IDX or .SON It says "This is not a valid Humminbird sonar recording. The file does not seem to be a valid 64 byte dat file." If i click on the .DAT folder it says opening but It will not load. I have let it set for over an hour. Its like the program is stalling or not responding. I have about 2 hours of data stored on my card. Is humviewer what i want to use???

The DAT file is the correct file to select for Humviewer...
Is this 2 hours of data on your card that you speak of all in 1 recording (2 hours long)...??
That's a lot of data for Humviewer to open in 1 recording...
I keep my recordings to 30 minutes or less...and it still takes 2 or 3 minutes to load into Humviewer....
Did you manually stop the recording in the xpress menu...?? (recordings have to be stopped manually or they will not function correctly in Humviewer)...

Hey Andy. rnvinc is correct on keeping the recording time down. Had the same problem with slowing my puter to a crawl. Also, I have found after 30ish recordings that I much prefer recordings with the 800 khz signal. It's much clearer when transferred to Humviewer than the 455 signal and it works perfectly for me since I'm on a small, shallow lake. The 455 recordings I've made have been about useless when trying to find gravel banks and rock piles, etc. Try both so you can see the difference for yourself.

Thanks WW. Ill have to give that a try. Ive been playing around and adjusting my unit accordingly to the conditions im going through. I fish the Central and Eastern basins of lake erie so i have very deep and very clear water. It took me awhile to get everything dialed in but im getting some awesome pics now. Especially on SI. Being that we run big planer boards the side imaging is a really cool feature. I mainly use it to find fish and not structure during walleye season. And its working pretty sweet. I have a couple of pics but i left my card in my unit on the boat so i dont have them right now. As of this past weekend we were fishing deep water (90-110 feet) but the fish were suspended around 35 so the 455 worked better for us for the reason of the 180 coverage. As the summer progresses and they go deeper in the column i might be able to switch to the 800 and give that a shot.
Finally getting some good returns back for fish for DI. I had to the DI window set to narrow and it wasn't giving me any returns. Switched it to Med or Wide and it works pretty darn good now. Im actually picking up fish on the DI that im not getting on 2d (cone angle) So all in all im really happy right now with my 1198. Its the best unit we've had to date and we've been through 5 or 6 units (different brands) throughout the years.
