Title: Update 6.3 wipes out the gps function on my 997

I recently had to send my 997 to the factory as it was not reading depth. I got it back and they had downloaded software 6.3 I believe it is. That wiped out my gps capabilities. A few years ago, I updated to 6.3 and the same thing happened. HB has no idea why its happening. So I luckily had a copy of the old 4.9 or some such thing, downloaded it, now my gps is functioning, but I have no speed showing.  Any ideas?

I don´t know why it does not work with your unit, it works with mine 997. But I don´t use, when I use 6.3 the side scan picture is not clear enough, I don't know if anyone as experience with that also.

I have install most of those updates, I find them some of them work well others seems something wrong or some conflicts in the software.

I use 5,450, I have no problems with that, and I can use the recordings with no problems with SI software's.

Thanks for the response. I tried to download 6.3 again, same result, it wiped out my gps functions, it was like the unit has no gps on it at all. So,  I downloaded the original 4.95 I think it is...now everything works just fine.  Go figure.  Can't decide whether to send it back to HB again, and be without it for another week, or just forget it.

Which GPS Receiver are you using with your 997 unit?

Do you mean what gps antenna I am using?  Its the one that came with the unit when it was new. A dealer installed it for me prior to my buying the boat.  I can check it tomorrow to see what number or name is on it.

No need to billius, I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t one of the newer GPS Receivers.  That should not be happening but if it can back from Humminbird like that I would contact them about getting it fixed under the service warranty before it expires.  You may have to send in the GPS Receiver along with it this time.

I appreciate the replies and advice.  It works well since I installed the old 4.95 software, but it should work with the  new software as well. I will give HB a call and see what they say. I have 90 days for their recent work to be warrantied.  I just hate to lose the use of it now...this is prime bass fishing season here in central Indiana.  Bill
