Lots of new stuff .... and still more to come....It's that time of year.

The Autochart Live in the G2 Helix models will also show bottom hardness and recognize and display weed areas.  Supposed to be able to follow a contour or a weed edge with the new I-pilot link ..... and spot lock is supposed to be MUCH improved.

any technical  info on this mega imaging from press release it looks as its still 455khz beam ??
is this just new Gen 2 units with repacked technology? or has there actually been an advance made to enhance images?

The MEGA beam is 1200 Khz (1.2 Megahertz) that is why they are calling it mega.  The higher frequency gives higher resolution.

This image and other info is in the link Rickie refereced in the original post.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z441/Middlemaan/560x400_MEGA-Diagram_Sec2_zpsaqezjkbl.jpg) (http://s1190.photobucket.com/user/Middlemaan/media/560x400_MEGA-Diagram_Sec2_zpsaqezjkbl.jpg.html)

The Mega scan range is 125' both directions and the 455 now has an extended range of 400' each side.  The new units also have a new transducer to support the higher frequency and there is also now a dedicated DI element in the transducer for sharper DI.  The 2D, SI, and DI are all chirp.

455kHz Down Imaging works to a depth of 400 feet.
1.2 MHz Side Imaging provides 250 feet of side to side coverage.
1.2 MHz Down Imaging works to a depth of 125 feet

And as Bob mentioned ... we do know these new xducers have what is called 2 Mega SI elements, 1 Mega DI element, Dual Beam, Temp in one xducer ...

The images posted clearly show CHIRP 1200kHz fixed frequency and CHIRP 1175kHz - 1275kHz sweep frequency ...

We will post new info as it becomes available ...

Can Bluetooth be used with Navionics SonarChart Live on a mobile device?

From what I have read the initial Bluetooth functions are pretty basic.....displaying phone messages and an app that does some basic stuff as well as a Bluetooth  remote.

My suspicion is that Bluetooth function upgrades will be part of the update candy.

Holy cow!  That fish shadow is AWESOME!

Must be a 3 m fish? I don't think the shadow looks like a fish because of actual shape of the animal but bacause of its movement during the scan. It's not a 2D image but a linescan.
In general, the images are nothing short of astounding. Whether they will really be of any practical use, I'm not so sure. Already the current units completely fill the monitor resolution. The biggest advantage is rather for looking at things back home. As far as fish are concerned, things might even be worse, since fish will be drawn smaller compared to conventional units, which paint a big bright blob for a fish. It's kind of obvious even in these images: at first glance, the bigger fish are missing. But when you look at the picture in detail, they are actually there, just really hard to see.

And in terms of actual resolution, it's not different from Garmin / Lowrance. Sure, the frequency is higher, but if the elements have the same length as current models, the increase in frequency only outweights the difference in length, yielding similar resolution. I think the Panoptix Multi-Beam approach is a much more fruitful road towards the future. Dynamic, 2D/3D, real-time, seem much more desirable to me in terms of fishing. In terms of pretty pictures though, Mega is awesome!
