Hey everyone, I have a 'plug in the wall type' transformer that has a rated output of 12v and 700mA. Would this be safe to operate a 596c HD DI unit that is listed as having a current draw of 400mA?

I would think so. The "wall wart" outputs more current than the 596c HD DI unit draws so you should be fine.

Other than initial surge at power on it should operate fine. At this small of draw 700 should handle the surge. Check the transformer for "heating" as it is used. Warm is normal during usage but if it gets hot then discontinue and go for a bit larger one..

Thanks Greg! The "wall wart'', as you called it, worked great. Chuck, the transformer got a little warm as you said but everything worked fine. I don't want to insult anyone's knowledge of electronics but all I had to do was watch for the correct polarity when I wired it up.
