Just got back for cruising for over a month....mostly Lake Ontario and the Thousand Islands right up to Brockville.
I used the sidescan/ depth view throughout the Thousand Islands and it was impressive how well it displayed bottom on the side scan and was very useful in confirming channels and rocks. I don't have much experience setting side scan up but for the most part it was simple.
As a straight fish finder it was also excellent (found bait, surface bait and fish getting one salmon over 20 pounds) and I do have a lot of experience with good quality fish finders but this is my first Humminbird. It is truly one of the best units I have even used and I date right back to paper graphs!
Only thing I have not been able to master is side scanning for fish suspended above bottom and near the surface. I am playing with the gain, etc but still either don't have the right combination of settings or the skill reading the graph.
All in all, as per my other posts, the transducer mounted on the trim tab worked out great.
