Title: Variable side image "size" in HumViewer
Post by: peterv6i on January 08, 2014, 02:18:40 PM
Today I was on the sea to record some things.. The side image range was set to 125ft..
Now when I load recorder data into humview I noticed that image is on same part  "cuted" !?
Look at the arrow..

anybody had this problem?

Looks like you may have changed the range during the recording.  The software will display the different ranges that way.

On my 998 the SI will 'auto range' when I'm in deeper water. I don't know why, but  it will.

The only thing I have change was switching screen between side scan and side scan + GPS navigation ..

With my old faithful 981 this is a very common phenomenom. The pattern has changed between firmware updates, but they still persist. In some cases the egdes of the image have a saw-tooth shape. There may also appear short moments with zero range and no recorded structure at all. Also, the 2D view is recorded down to the range set for SI which means bad use of memory card space. I think the issues have to do with the way the unit controls things.

(However, and this is my standard complaint, these issues are trivial compared to the transmit pauses (causing recording gaps) which have prevented me from updating my gear. I will stick to my 981 until I know there is a unit/firmware that can do gap-free recordings. Note, these gaps are not easy to see since they don't appear like empty spaces.)

We have seen this a lot over the years. it does appear as  Rickard says to be recording gaps and most likely due to the amount of data to process and some gets skipped. The distance change appears to be one of the gaps and in between the two gaps the distance has changed. All in all the recordings and displays are pretty good but you have to remember that it may take several scans of an area to get a good picture (in your mind) of the bottom/structure.
For the SAR guys, keep this in mind that it may take multiple passes to be sure you have not missed a target. And even then you might consider a more expensive to back up your initial efforts. (mutual aid).
