New at this SI recordings
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:12:24 PM »
Ok so I just bought my first HB Si 798, love it, I put in a sd card, recorded 30 min, downloaded humviewer, and tried to open the files on my SD card, I have a record Folder with  a R0001.dat file on it and also have a folder name R0001, inside this folder are some files ...
I tried opening the dat file on humviewer but nothing...
I tried to fallow the example giving here, http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=937.msg4806#msg4806 , but I got more confused,
Is there a video on how to do this??
Or can please some one walk me step by step..
Sorry for the bother, and thanks in advanced

Humviewer is made to open the HB recorded file.
Humviewer67 is the most current release.
You have done right so far.

When you open the .dat file it may take a little wait for the 30 minute record to open.
You should see a couple of things like loading messages.  It does take a little bit to open. after that it will open quicker.
What is your screen displaying when you first open the file and are waiting..

rick,
whenyou get a new recording it will be in a file called record.
Copy that file to your pc.
When you open Humviewer, open the record file and then select the .dat file to open for the recordings...
when we make recording we store them on the pc in files that identify the location.
for example.  Lake redmill.  This file will then contain the records for any recordings on that lake. We make subfile in the parent record by date. This way we can find the file we want..

C:sonarfiles\lakemill\03242012\R00021.dat/record21\then the 6 files for the sonar recording..
However it is up to you to select your way of storeing...

OK, I finally went out got some recording but in some of the files where my Dat file should have some kind of bytes, it shows zero and therefore I can't view the recording, The other files with in the recording do show IDX 788 kb and SON 138.389 but  not on the Dat file, Could it be my sd card?
Is there a way to save what I recorded since it did record, but not on the Dat file..??
Thanks..

Rick, make sure you stop a recording if you started it.  The unit does not do this by itsself..
Also, If your son files are that large you might want to decrease the recording time. say to 30 minutes max.

Your .dat file should be 1k....and for example on a 30 minute recording your .son will be around 52,6000 kb and the .idx will be around 335 kb..

Ok, then it looks like I made two mistakes, one I didn't stop the recording I just turned off the unit and two,  I recorded all of 5 hours of fishing,,
Ans as far as my Dat file, it has zero bytes,  ???
Well looks like a lost the data unless you have any ideas..

not stopping the recording will not produce any useable data...

I think a user names Wolf4evr might know a way to make a .dat file...

maybe he can jump in..
