program to view sidescan on laptop live
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:46:20 PM »
To begin with I have a 998CX SI mounted on my boat.  Is it possible to connect it to a laptop via ethernet cable and using YellowFin, Dr. depth or SonarTRX be able to view the side scan image in real time on the laptop?  The console mounted 998 could then be used for navigation and the laptop for viewing side scan.  All passes will be recorded and reviewed back on shore.  I have read that Dr. Depth SS version 4.3 can do this but I want to know for sure.  Will others do this as well?  Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Darryl

Hi Darryl

DrDepth supports live-ethernet-function, I use this software myself and am thrilled.

I was wondering,
Do I need a Lowrance HDS-unit to be able to liveview the sidescan on Dr. Depth, or can I just buy a LSS-2 with a transducer and Dr. Depth, and that is able to control everything?
Would be nice to save the money ;P

Hi Alekoy

Welcome in the forum

You need either an Hummingbird with ethernet output or an Lowrance HDS with ethernet output. A laptop ,  DrDepth SS and an ethernet cable  from the manufacturer that you have to modify themselves.
Attention! DrDepth not replace the manufacturer's appliance unit ???.
