Displaying TD numbers
« on: March 30, 2013, 11:03:07 PM »
Ok,  So I have a question.  Im trying to figure out how I can display TD numbers on my 1198.  I cant seem to find it so I think that this feature isn't supported.  Every chartplotter company does a Lat/Long to TD conversion. My older garmin and lowrance units had a Td to Lat/long converter built in with offset and Even my inexpensive eagle unit on my 16 footer has a td feature.  So when I move my cursor my eagle unit, it gives me the Lat/long numbers and right below it it shows the converted TD numbers. I believe its a math conversion generated by the lat/long so I feel this feature can be easily added in a software update.
Is there anyway to display this on my 1198 and if not who can I speak to to try and get this feature added. Even though TD is not widely used anymore it is still very applicable in open water fishing and every charter captain I know still uses these TD numbers vs. Lat/long.

No way to display on the HB unit.  I have heard a few people ask for this.  But most charts don't even display Loran C anymore and anyone who is usually using them can convert them out anyway with software and transfer to GPS.

You can certainly check the wishlist here on the forum and see if it has been requested. And if not, you can ad it.

Thanks for the reply Robert.  I understand what your saying because Loran C isn't operational anymore but there are so many people that still refer to the areas they fish using TD's and its not going away.  I myself never used Loran C because Im to young but charters captains, especially the ones on on Erie that I work with use nothing but TD's. No lat/longs whatsoever.  These charter captains on my dock have newer furuno, garmin, lowrance and raymarine units that all display the TD along with Lat. Long or have a converter built into the units and I know that they will never purchase a humminbird chartplotter/fishfinder for the simple fact that they cant have this feature.  Im sure this is a niche group but I really feel that this added feature would be widely used.
I tried posting this on the wishlist but everytime I hit the wishlist link it takes me back to the homepage.

Try the wish List now.  I see your point, its something that could be pretty easily implemented.

Yes, It is. I've contacted humminbird directly trying to reach software or R and D via email. I may call tomorrow.  I know for a fact that humminbird is losing some business not having implemented this feature. That's a shame because my 1198 is a fantastic sonar unit.   I did a ton of research today and pretty much every chartplotting machine from other competing companies have some kind of TD to GPS converter as a standard. Humminbird needs to do this.
