AS GR50 to Marine Radio NMEA
« on: January 06, 2013, 12:04:34 PM »
Tryin to make sure I got this right...
898 with the EXT GPS puck, tryin to connect a Standard Horizon Eclipse DSC + GX1150... GPS NMEA
The radio says,
Purple wire in +
Blue wire out +
Green wire  ground -

GR50 says,
GPS NMEA out Green wire
Control head NNMEA out White wire
Black ground -

So I'm thinking Purple & White, Blue & Green?
And of course, I think I got the grounds figured out ;)
TIA!
Gene

I currently have my 998 hooked to my GX1150 via (radio side - GR50 side) purple to white and green to black and it works fine (note NMEA out does not work in simulator mode). You have to have NMEA output turned on in HB to get position on radio. I'm thinking about changing to (radio side - GR50 side) purple to green, so that NMEA output does not need to be turned on.

HB Greg, do you know if using the GPS NMEA out works without turning NMEA output on?

JimJack, yes, that green wire from the gps puck will work without NMEA output turned on. The white NMEA controlhead output is the same as the green output but with depth reading included and NMEA output has to be turned on.

GeneBall, Just checked the manual for that VHF radio. Page 17 has the wiring has:
WHITE - External Speaker (+)
SHIELD - External Speaker (–)
BLUE- NMEA Input (+)
GREEN - NMEA Common or Ground
PURPLE - NMEA Output (+)

..So you would need GPS output to VHF input.. .
...
So you would have to go VHF Blue wire to either GPS green or white wire(if white wire turn NMEA output on fish finder), and connect the VHF Green wire to GPS black wire.
If you needed to add additional devices that require a GPS,NMEA signal, you can use the VHF Purple wire (or the GPS green or white if the VHF is off)
