Title: Helixg3 mega si head unit clicking sound
Post by: Lsobo21 on July 17, 2021, 09:34:10 AM
I just redid the wiring for my Helixg3 mega si unit with 14gauge tinned wire for the console direct to the battery with 4amp Mel fuse.  Did the Same thing with a helix G1 at the bow.  At the bow voltage on H1 reads same as battery, 12.8 volts. On the newer unit I read 12.1 volts, but checked the pins at the connector and it has 12.8 volts.  Also the head unit is clicking fast for 5 seconds and then slow for 5 seconds.  It is loud enough to hear with no noise around, but easily drowned out if wind or motor on.  Clicking isn’t there on startup screen, only after I clear that screen and then there constantly.

What is causing this clicking or is this normal?  I read that the voltage may be off on the screen, but this seems to much.  Any thoughts?

The reason I made the wiring change is because I was getting a little flickering on mega si when I had higher contrast so I assumed clean power issue because I was using the console fuse block

Clicking in the head unit itself is not normal  ...

Try Restore Defaults  ... if that does make the clicking go away call Humminbird  ...

Thank you.
I have confirmed the clicking matches the cadence of the transducer.

Sounds like the transmitter. But I haven’t read any reports of the transmitter creating an audible sound  ...

Ricky,

Thanks again.  Talked to HB support this morning and the very nice lady on the phone said that hearing a faint clicking like the transducer at the head unit is normal.  She also wasn't concerned that the voltage was off by 0.5 volts between the plug and the display.  She said unless the unit shuts off I should not worry about it.

While I cant argue that unit appears to be working, still leaves me with that hmmm thought process.
