HELIX 10 G2N SI MEGA install and networking SI 997 CSI
« on: April 24, 2017, 01:26:29 PM »
Here is a good one for the experts . I need your help and suggestions please:

I currently have a 997 CSI along with canonlink for my downrigger to control my DR via the sonar which I love.  I don't exclusively use downriggers for fishing but when I do I want to keep this, so I understand that the canonlink is not compatible with the Helox so I still need my 997 CSI installed.

I recently purchased a new Trolling motor with Ipilot link (with built in 2d Transducer) as well as the Helix 10 G2N MEGA SI and have yet to install them. Thus my questions:

I own a 17 ft Sylvan Expedition Sport bowrider with an outboard 115hp Outboard prop engine

1/What is the best configuration for installation where I cen benefit from all the new featurs of my ipilot link and Helix while maintain my canonlink functionality? Currently the 997CSI transducer is installed via the stock 2d/SI transducer on the transom to the right of the outboard.

Ideally I would like to link the two units but I have a hunch since the 997 is pre Ethernet that may not be possible. Also alternatively if I could remove my existing original transducer and simply replace it with the helix and run both units from the one that would be great as well. I don't see connecting the 997csi to my trolling motor transduce soley as a good idea cince I don't want to have to deploy the trolling motor (and not be using it whenever I want to downrig)

So what would your suggestions be ?

Also, I saw a youtube Huminbird company video where they installed the new G2N Mega SI transducer directly underneath the outboard motor on the transom but all manuals say to install the transducer at least 12 inches away one the side to avoid interference?? So why does their demo video show that? I do have room to install mine there... my current transduce it 12 inches to the right of the engine

So is it best to integrate the units (and still possible to keep my canonlink)  or are we looking at two complete separate installations where I cant share the screens or transducers? Or something in between?

thanks

You are correct the 997 is pre-ethernet so it cannot be linked to HELIX in any way  ... The 997 will basically be a stand alone unit for controlling the Cannon link  ...

The HELIX and iLink will Ethernet fine  ... You will need the AS EC QDE adapter cable for the HELIX  ...
http://www.humminbird.com/Products/AS-EC-QDE/

The iLink should come with an Ethernet cable for connection to the HELIX adapter cable  ...
----

The xducer installation calls for 15" clearance to the side for mounting the SI xducer  ...

The 15" minimum in the installation is for outdrive boats ...   Outboards need only be concerned with not mounting the xducer directly in front of the lower unit water intakes ... because the xducer can create turbulence (air) to enter the intakes ...   And do not mount the xducer so close to the lower unit that the motor hits the xducer housing at full lock turn to that side ...

Thanks. I was thinking of seeing if I could buy cheaply a used or old inventory head only 998 of 999 if compatible with canon link so I could link it instead to my helix and just run one system as a work around vs switching one off at a time? Not sure what which model/software version canon link stopped being supported

I think CannonLink stopped with numbered core series  ...

Thanks,

I will call before I make a purchase of a more current core series.  I saw that they are listed as supported however George of Bar Distributors out of North Bay Ontario told me that after updating the software on one of his clients' core series units the canonlink stopped working and I believe the client installed a prior version

So there seems to be a possible discrepancy
