Shortcut View Problem
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:29:20 AM »
I have a 798 si hd with the 6.25 software upgrade. All of a sudden the middle shortcut screen view will not work. I checked with all the views. None will lock using this key. None of the views are hidden in the main menu either. All will display using the view function.
Can anyone give me any ideas on solving this problem ? Thanks.

Might try updating to a newer software version.

So you did try setting another View with the middle View shortcut button, correct?

Do you get any sound response from the unit when you use the middle View shortcut button?

You may have a piece of trash on the outside of that button that is
preventing it from depressing all the way.
I once had a similar problem with my power button, and this is how
I fixed it.

Take a thin plastic toothpick and insert it somewhere between the button and
the case.  In a circular motion, go completely around the button and see
if anything is stuck in there, and try to dig it out.

DO NOT use a wooden toothpick, because it may break off and give
you more troubles.

Greg,
All buttons make a beep except for the middle shortcut button. I ran a small, thin wire around the edges of the middle button to check for trash, but did not find any. All views are visible from the view button.
Any ideas ?

My guess is that it is something internal with the inside of the button or the keypad PCB.  You will have to send it in to Humminbird to get it taken care of.  How far away are you from Eufaula?  You may be able to drive it down here one day and have it fixed while you wait.

Before I sent it in, I'd try a few things first.
I don't know if 6.25 is the newest software, but if
it's not, I'd upgrade to the newest version (as LocDown said).
If it's running the newest software, I'd go back one
version.
Reset all settings to default before and after any update.

If all else fails, I'd try and push that button down as hard as I
possibly could without breaking something.  It might just be
stuck.

Thanks for all the ideas. I hesitate to send or bring it in and pay the standard fixed charge for this minor issue. I can still access any of the screens using the view key. I may bring it in later. Thanks.
