Title: can I go back to 6.49
Post by: Loorawls on January 26, 2015, 10:23:17 PM
I bought a 998 hd from someone who bought it a year ago. The unit came with 6.68 and has never been updated. Would it be too much of a risk of bricking the unit to go back to 6.49 if it technically was never ran before?  Or would I be better off going to the latest update?  Has the 2d quality improved at all with the latest versions?

Maybe just wait for the 7.460 that is coming for it sometime in Feb.  There is a jigging mode that is supposed to improve 2D performance.....Not a lot of info on it yet.

In the meantime, you might call customer service with the serial # of your unit and they should be able to tell you if it's safe to go to 6.49

If the unit came with (meaning it came from the factory that way) 6.680 software than it is not safe to load an older version of software into it without a serious chance of bricking the unit.  If it didn’t come from the factory that way or if you just want to be sure, than give the Humminbird Customer Service folks a call to find out what software version the unit was built with but be sure to have your serial number handy when you do.

Thanks!  I'll probably try out the new version to be safe. I want to use chart select anyhow.
