I re-wired everything and it fixed the power issue. my screen is still pixelated and the 2d doesn't work at all.
Where can I find old updates ? Would this be a good decision? I was thinking of loading an older update and the re-load the latest and greatest. This pixelation issue started after the last update.
thanks

i installed an earlier update version but it didn't help. i restored defaults, is there any other way to reset the unit? i don't want to send it in but i may not have any choice. i read earlier that you can use the bootsrtap method. i held down the view key and then the power key but it didn't do anything.

Have you got a buddy to throw your head on see if it clears up you might have a transducer issue
this test will check both things, Gary

no i don't....
would a bad y connector between the two tranducers keep the unit from powering on?
what about re-setting the unit with bootstrap method? How do you do this?
thanks

A bad transducer splitter Y-cable could cause bottom reading issues. Try plugging in first one transducer than the other one (one at a time without the splitter cable) to see if it clears up.
There is no way to reset the unit other than the Restore Defaults menu, but I doubt that will help. If you loaded an older version of software and it did not clear up, than I suggest you contact the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about sending your unit in for servicing.

thanks Greg.....I sent it in today. I hope it works, it's been frustrating trying to figure it out.

FYI: The bootstrap mode is not available in the newer Linux based units like the 998c Si.

it would be nice to have such a feature available to units that are still under warranty. it would save a lot of money for your customers and also keep techs from diagnosing common problems therefore saving hb and me money...

+5......yes it would be nice to be able to "clean" a unit of corrupted and worthless information. This should be available to even those out of warranty...
