Hi all, new here to the forums.
I was wondering if this transducer http://store.humminbird.com/products/314032/XPTH_9_HDSI_180_T (http://store.humminbird.com/products/314032/XPTH_9_HDSI_180_T) will still give me the ability of Side Imaging for my 798cisi? I did notice that it says it does not include 800 kHz for high definition, what does this mean to me?

XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T Transducers.Plastic Thru Hull Transducer
Dual/ High Definition Side Imaging, 20/74/84 Degree, 200/83/455/800 kHz with built in temperature. 30' cable. Transducer dimensions: 5.95"L X 3"W. Shaft diameter: 1.0" Fairing block included.
HB indicates the transducer supports 455 and 800......
HB indicates the 798 does not support 800..
This means you will not have the 800 for deep depths..

For sonar to work, both the transducer and unit have to be capable of a certain sonar frequency. The XPTH-9-HDSi-180-T transducer is capable producing the 800kHz Si frequency but the 798ci Si is not capable of producing or using this same frequency (it does not have the internal components for this). So it means that your 798 will not be able to use the higher more detailed 800kHz Si frequency but will work fine with the other 455kHz Si frequency as well as the 83kHz and 200kHz 2D sonar frequencies. Basically it will work like the 798’s standard Compact Side Imaging transducer would.

Is there a bronze equivalent available?

No there is no bronze version of the Side Imaging transducer. The Si sonar beams radiate directly out of the sides of this transducer, so if it had bronze sides on it than you would not get any Si sonar.

So this transducer is the best available for a thru hull install for HD SI and DI?

It is the only Plastic Thru-Hull transducer that we make for the Side Imaging units. So I guess that makes it the best as well.

How has peoples success been using this vs the Transom mount HD SI ducer? Have you been able to keep bottom readings at high speed?
How is the image quality vs Transom mount?

I don't think there are very many people using that transducer because most don't want to drill a hole in the bottom of their boat to mount it. It is an actual thru hull.....not shoot thru hull.

If the hull isn't suitable for shoot thru .... the transom mounted XNT 9 20 is easier to mount for high speed 2D readings than the HDSI transducer, and the more expensive transducer can be mounted higher out of harms way. If you decided to go with the shoot thru .... it is important to do testing before permanently mounting it.
