Title: ONIX 10_SI second hand quick test
Post by: Swann on May 18, 2023, 02:25:55 PM
So an Onix10_SI just showed up on my radar 4real cheap. Now the Seller says they don't fish much & was only using the Unit 4 Navigation?
So 1 question ; knowing these Units had a problem with 1 of the Software Upgrades (Not that I would expect any1 2know exactly which Software Upgrade that was or this Forum would really knock my socks off) - How can I tell IF the Unit is "bricked" or stuck in a Loop when we power it up to test? Will it work all? Will only "some" functions work as per the Sellers mention of "Navigation"?
Now i know the Core Unit Menus quite well by this point in time But Zero Experience with Onix & yet another question could pertain 2our Administratorz post about v5.600 being "The point of No Return" - what year did that come out or does that only apply to Helix Units & newer?
Thanks, Swann

Hello Swann , i have 2014 onix 8 that i updated to the last update and its working ok , i guess if you go thru all menus and pages you'd see if something was'nt right and plug in a transducer to see if it recognises it . these are good units .

Well, I'm the proud new Second owner of an Onix10_SI. Now the Touch-Screen doesn't work & had 2 disable but who wants Fish Slime on their screen anyway.
I was surprised 2notice how much thicker the cable of the HDSI Transducer is over that of an 1198 or 1199.
Screen Clarity is Crisp & quite happy overall & even though this Unit has a mfg date of Nov.2015 - I'm Quite impressed as it has more features than I would know what 2do with really? So Far So Good!
Thanks, Swann

Now I do have a question & attached a Spec sheet as well ; I have the XT 14 74 HDSI Transducer & it states the the Unit will yield 1000wRMS 2use this Transducer vs 600wRMS w/the XT 14 20 HDSI Transducer. Does this mean I will use more Battery Power w/the 50khz Beam that than the 83khz Beam or just abit Wider+Deeper Coverage? ("just" 3000+ft deeper+15deg more coverage "no biggie") LOL! Thanks, Swann
