Title: 998c SI with 798c SI transducer
Post by: dvanpham on February 07, 2011, 03:47:16 PM
Hello everyone,

I am upgrading my 798ci SI on the console of my boat to a 998c SI.  I bought a trolling motor transducer for my 798 and will move it to the bow of the boat.  My question revolves around keeping the transom mounted transducer and using it on the 998c SI.  I realize that this doesn't give me the 800 Khz capability on SI, but will I notice a difference in the 400 Khz SI between the 798 transducer and the 998 transducer?

The thought of filling and drilling more holes in the transom of my 18' aluminum boat freaks me out a little bit.

Thanks everyone!

Yes, you will notice a big difference even in the 455khz.  The transducer array is smaller on the compact SI transducer and not as sharp as the longer HDSI transdcuer.

You definitely want to put the HDSI on the 998.  You would even notice a difference on the 798 by using the HDSI transdcuer with it as well.

Thanks, Robert!  I'll get my drill bits ready and will install the new transducer when it arrives in a few days.

Try using one of the transducer mounting boards that are available at some of the marine or catalog dealers or make one your self.  Once mounted it will keep you from having to drill more holes in your boat when you change or adjust the transducer.

Will do, Greg.  Thanks for everyone's help with my question.  I've learned so much from the other answers you have provided the other members on here.  It's truly appreciated and is a huge reason why I picked Humminbird. :)
