New updates
« on: February 08, 2012, 11:41:30 AM »
I have been in the duck hunting mode for the last couple of months and just starting fishing again.  I remember receiving a card from humminbird on new updates (early in 2012) that will remove the readouts on the left side of the my 898.  I checked my account and find that I have the latest update already installed on my unit.  Does anyone know when the update may become available?

Chuck,
You only received the notice by e-mail if you were registered in the Humminbird Select program and had an 898c Si or 998c Si unit registered.

Here is a link to the YouTube video showing it:

our rescue sq has 2 898 registered and they did not receive any notice...They would have told me if they did...I dont think all the notices go out as planned..Others have said the same thing..I have seen videos and seminars that show future things that never happen..
Guess this is one of those...

They are registered in the Humminbird Select program or just have the units registered on the web site?  They have to be registered in the Humminbird select program to get the message.

Offroad, it does seem we are lagging behind in several promotional notices..

I guess we the user and( thanks a lot to this forum) have to keep ourselves informed.

Not happy with this registered vs select but I guess some may be more important that others..I dont understand the process so may be out of the knowledge loop..

Well I'm registered as well as a select Humminbird member.I didn't receive any notice email or anything about this new update.I heard about it on here,In fact I have never received an email from Humminbird EVER.For this reason I keep signing up to receive emails from Humminbird and every time it says I have been added to the list to receive news from them but never do.All I know is myself and a lot of members are VERY excited about this new update that can do away with the side image readouts. So I really hope your wrong Sonar2000 and this update is just taking some time but will be available soon...

I hope I am wrong slao. The ability to remove the readouts is an enhancement to SI like never before. We sure were looking forward to it.
Maybe the Ides of March winds will bring us the update..... ;D
Kinda of wish the rescue squad had gotten the 1198 but they did not understand the difference. Glad we can work with them as it adds more units to the availability of the area.......
Thank you for your view and information...

There were some mistakes made by whoever did the data entry for the Humminbird Select sign-up information.  The same thing happened to me...I was not getting any emails.  I found out that whoever did the data entry mistakenly entered that i did not want to receive emails.  Apparently this happened to a lot of people because I have seen quite a few posts about it.
If you got the email with your member # you should be able to call HB customer service and get it straightened out.
If you never got the email with the member #, that is a totally different thing.  It probably means that you aren't registered for the extended warranty either.
In either case, I would call HB customer service.
They got it straightened out for me and I am now getting emails.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

BB and DD let us know what out find out about the registration base.
It may be good for all of us to register again and make sure we get a reference number.

Yes ask them about those updates .... If they said in 2012 we will update the software on our units  thats fine but they said this

Humminbird 2012 Software Release Removable Readouts for 898/999 Side Imaging Units.
You will have the ability to remove the readout boxes on the Left side of your Side Imaging View and now have the depth and the temp displayed at the bottom of the screen. Now you can maximize your viewing area for Side Imaging. This software will be released in January for the 898 and the 998

You need to update yourself and learn about the email that Humminbird Sent out to the Humminbird Select Crowd. Perhaps you missed the email.

I got one saying that they plan to update the software and that the depth readout and temperatuer readouts will be selectable for the SI screen image.  That's what I read the email to say. It's all over the web too.  If you visit the other fishing forums that talk about Humminbirds SI units you will learn of this new software that's coming this spring sometime.  I've been waiting for it to get out on their web site.

I guess they don't tell Greg what's going on unit it happens.  LOL  I'm pretty busy now so I don't sit around waiting for it like I did a few week ago.  But I still hope that it's put out before this spring's crappie fishing season starts in March.  Early March would be a good time for Humminbird To put the new software for the 898 unit's on their web site and our update pages.

Chuck,
You only received the notice by e-mail if you were registered in the Humminbird Select program and had an 898c Si or 998c Si unit registered.

Here is a link to the YouTube video showing it:

Check your email spam box. Some anti virus software will not let some emails though the system.  That could be why some don't get the Humminbird Emails and other's do.

I run the Kaspersky Internet Security software on one of my computer and Zone Alarm Pro on the other.  It can make a difference in how you get the eamils.

Some security emails let you train your computer .

If your emails from Humminbird were hi jacked by your security system you may still be able to get them. They may be saved in a folder somewhere on your computer just waiting for you to see them and tell your security program to allow them though the firewall and or virus checker system.
Regards,

Moose1am
