Not sure on that Rudiger.  Maybe uninstall it and reload.  I think that you choose this when you first install HummPC (it’s been many years since I installed it).

I thought the connection to HumminbirdPC was a USB connection..
What is calling for the Com port identification....

If you use the Factory cable from humminbird,it is a serial to unit connection. you can use usb,but requires a serial to usb converter.

Hey Greg :D

I use the factory cable from HB and a usb-serial converter. The NMEA output from the unit works, so the connection is OK. But i can not change the com port in the HB-PC software.
I have uninstall and reload the software, the problem is the same. >:(

Now I’m the one that missed it Chuck:
Rudiger: are you using this with your 898c Si unit?  If so than this unit will not communicate with the HumminbirdPC software due to the 898 using a different programming language.

Hey Greg :D

Yes i use my 898c Si unit, a laptop with Win-XP ( Swedish vision ), HB-PC 3.0.26 and the unit in German language.
What can or must i change ?

Nothing Rudigar,
It is not your language but the computer programming language – not language but operating system (sorry but my brain is foggy today!) - that is used in the 898c Si unit.  We had been using an older operating system but switched to Linux for all of the larger units in 2010.

Our Software Engineers would have to come up with a new version of HumminbirdPC that would be able to communicate to both types of operating systems.

Since hummingbird-PC is a HB product dont you think that they would have anticipated the need for a new version of Humminbird-PC and had that ready with the release of the new operating system.
Is anyone in HB reading these posts here and other forums?
There are software problems in several areas and if HB is to excel in the market they need to get the game plan on.
You cant just turn out hardware without functioning software.

There is a HB wish list here but getting HB to read is another issue.
HB should create a user group just for input..

My guess – and this is only a guess - is that a new version of HumminbirdPC is ir was in the works but has not been completed due to other, higher priority, needs.  Besides, there is nothing that HumminbirdPC can do that you cannot do via a memory card with these units.

I’ll have to see if anyone is actively reading these forums now or not.  I know that the Engineer that I knew was reading these left the company, so don’t know if anyone else is or not for sure.  My guess is that someone is.

Also consider that id we had our own forum; that this one would probably not exist!  :o

Greg, if HB had a forum would it be as good as this one.   ;D.. ::).. :P.. >:D
Robert puts a lot in this as do moderators.
Not to even mention the guys that share their knowledge.
HB should pay Robert for the work.
After all they outsource other stuff.
