Title: Noobie! What Humminbird should I use

Absolutely new to this and need some feedback. Not sure if I should post here or not.

What Humminbird should I use and Transducer for looking for wrecks 60-200 feet depth?

Welcome to the site

You can use any of the Side Imaging units, but the larger the better.  You will see a lot while searching the bottom and will see a lot more by reviewing your recordings on your computer. 

I have an 1197c (older model) and would purchase it again and would purchase a larger screen if it was available.  The detail on Side Imaging and Down imaging is incredible.  Currently I am fishing a new lake and passed over a tree which was picture perfect in about 70 feet of water.  I was not smart enough to mark it, now I am searching the lake for it.

I agree.
Get the largest screen you can afford.
Some of the new units come with a dedicated
Down-Imaging crystal.

I would do some research and look at some of the
posted pictures of different units before purchasing.

Emailed a buddy last night and he has the 998C SI Combo. We'll probably use his for now.

What would be a good transducer to use?

Also, has anyone tried plumbing in a secondary screen (Hardwire) to a larger size? Or maybe the technician service manual?

The 998 would be a good unit to use....especially if you have one to borrow.  You would want to use the standard HDSI transducer that comes with it, and your buddy should be able to help you with mounting the transducer correctly if he has one.

If you search this site for "video out" you should find several discussions about it.  It works very well, but the biggest challenge is finding a durable, sunlight visible monitor that doesn't break the bank.

(The only units with dedicated DI crystals are the down imaging only units...I don't think that is what you will be wanting to use.)

Some who do the wreck hunting also build a towfish for the transducer to get it down deeper.  This will give you better detail in very deep water.   There are several people posting on this forum who are very knowledgable about a towfish, and a search of the site should give you several results also.

This site is one of the best sources of info as there are a lot of divers, wreck, SAR, and treasure hunter who frequent this site and use their Humminbirds in unique ways......you could probably get a big jump start by just spending time search previous posts on here.
